SEWING BASICS #2: CHAPSTICK HOLDER

  • Madjax Maker Force 515 East Main Street Muncie, IN, 47305 United States (map)

Ready to build on your sewing skills? Sewing Basics #2 is designed for participants who have completed Sewing Basics #1 or already feel comfortable using a sewing machine. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll continue developing your machine sewing skills while creating a practical chapstick holder with a keyring or loop - perfect for everyday use or gifting.

This session reinforces core sewing fundamentals like accurate seam allowances, consistent stitching, and fabric handling, while introducing new skills such as sewing small-scale projects, working with layers, turning and finishing tight corners, and attaching hardware. Instructors will also cover tips for efficiency, clean finishes, and problem-solving as you work through the project.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a completed chapstick holder and greater confidence navigating the sewing machine independently. This class is an ideal next step for makers interested in accessories, apparel, or more advanced textile projects at MadJax. All materials and equipment are provided.

This program is FREE to current Maker Space Members (use coupon: MEMBER) or $25 for guests. Space is limited.

Meet your instructor: KELLIE TEAL

Kellie Teal has been sewing since she was eight years old, when her grandmother gave her a battery-operated sewing machine and access to a treasured scrap box. She began by making (very primitive!) Barbie clothes for herself and her sister, but even then, their dolls had custom style.

Over the years, Kellie has sewn just about everything imaginable, from golf bags and evening wear to lingerie and everyday alterations. Her specialty and favorite work is gown alterations, particularly bridal and prom dresses. She loves the moment a client looks in the mirror and sees a dress that fits perfectly. That smile is the best part.

Kellie has likely altered enough bridal and prom gowns to fill a dump truck and takes pride in helping people feel confident and beautiful for life’s biggest moments.

A MadJax member, Kellie is passionate about sharing her talents and helping keep sewing alive as both a practical skill and creative art form. She especially enjoys transforming something old into something new, whether that means tailoring a garment for a flawless fit or completely reimagining it into something entirely different.
