MEMBER TRAINING: LATHE
- Madjax Maker Force 515 East Main Street Muncie, IN, 47305 United States (map)
Join fellow makers for a hands-on training session on the wood lathe and spindle turning. This training will introduce you to the equipment, tools, and techniques needed to safely and confidently use the lathe for your own projects.
Participants will learn lathe safety, wood preparation, mounting material between centers, proper use of turning tools, and basic spindle-turning techniques. You’ll have the opportunity to practice shaping wood while building the foundational skills needed to work independently on the lathe.
This is a member-only training. Completion of this training is required before members may use the lathe independently in the Shipyard.
This session is available to Maker Space members only.
Meet your instructor: Samuel Lujajohnson
Samuel Lujajohnson, a family man from southern Indiana, has always had a love for woodworking. His father, a lifelong mechanic, instilled the foundations of using tools and working with his hands from an early age. Sam always enjoyed building things, and had a dedicated workshop by the time he was 12. Mostly self-taught in his adult life, he has continued to learn from other experts through local classes or online videos. Samuel is the co-founder of the custom furniture and fine art company, Oak and Ember Design LLC; partnered with his sister Maranda.
